Sports Award Evening
CHS’ 6th annual
Sports Awards Evening took place on Wednesday 10th July, which celebrated and
ended a remarkable year of sport for CHS, with success coming in every sport.
The evening started
with a sports themed delicious 3-course meal for the guests, provided by Year
10 catering students. After the meal the awards ceremony took place, which
was an opportunity for CHS to celebrate the sporting success of students both
inside and outside of school. Over 100 awards were presented on the night
including Contribution to Sport, Extra Curricular, Player of the Year, Athlete
of the Year and Sports Person of the Year.
The special guest on
the night was Nick Powell, who progressed through Crewe Alexandra’s famous
youth teams and now plays for Manchester United. Powell presented some of the
awards and did a question and answer session which included advising students
on how to juggle school work and sporting activities. It also gave students and
guests an insight into his journey as a footballer.
Team of the Year
Award
One of the award’s presented
by Nick Powell was Team of the Year. This year the award went to the under 13
girls football team who like Nick know what it feels like to be Premier League
Champions. The under 13 girls football team became Premier League Champions
this year after winning the Premier League Schools’ Tournament at Anfield,
whilst representing Stoke City. The girls’ showed great teamwork as well as an
array of talent.
Daniel Sturridge
Rising Star Award
The Daniel Sturridge
Rising Star Award is named after former CHS student and now Liverpool FC striker
Daniel Sturridge and how fitting that this year the award went to Hollie Massey.
Hollie is inspiring to many, who in school represents 7 school teams and
captains 4 of them and always shows great enthusiasm and commitment to each
sport. When she isn’t representing CHS she plays for Manchester United, and is
now part of the England Under 15’s girls team and received her first cap last
year following attendance at training camps at the new England Training
Complex, St. George’s Park.
The Lynda Arnold
Award
The Lynda Arnold
Award, named after a former PE teacher, is for outstanding contribution to
school sport. This year the award went to Nathan Stirk who has shown
outstanding contribution to school sport throughout his time at CHS and is
currently completing the year 12 BTEC Sport course which he has shown enthusiasm
in right from the start.
Future Champions
Campaign
The evening
also saw the Future Champions Campaign launched where the campaign ambassadors
were recognised and received a badge. Future champions is about identifying CHS’
high achieving students that represent and compete at high levels and then to
instigate mentoring through a programme to enhance their experiences. The
students will share and develop with one another to hopefully reach their goals
and academic potential. They will study 5 specific units designed to
further increase that potential both inside and outside of CHS
