Another Day to Remember
for Under 14 Girls
Following
CHS’ under 14 girls remarkable triumph last May they have appeared on Match of
the Day Kickabout, been invited to and watched England take on Moldova in a
World Cup qualifier in September and now they have paraded their winning trophy
in front of 25,000 people.
It wasn’t an
open top bus but still this time last year playing at Anfield never mind
becoming premier league champions was just a distant dream. However, on Saturday they gave Stoke fans a
sight they may not see again (sorry Stoke fans but it is true), the premier
league trophy on the pitch at the Britannia when the winning squad paraded the
trophy around the stadium. They also watched the game and they didn’t have to
wait long after taking their seats, to see the opening goal. In fact only 13
seconds when Asmir Begovic became only the 5th Premier League
goalkeeper to score. After seeing Begovic score I am sure CHS goalkeeper Lydia
Bennett will take tips from both Begovic and the wind and will want to get on
the scoresheet herself! The match ended 1-1 and I am sure a few of the girls as
well as one or two of the staff would have liked to see Stoke City claim all
three points.
One thing’s
for sure it is another day to remember for the under 14 girls team something
that is becoming a normality for the victorious squad.
Some of the
girls have stepped up to the next age group but they are still playing like
Premier League champions and have already made a great start to their new
campaign with a 2-0 victory in their opening match but it could have easily
been eight! This has given the under 15 side a solid building block for the
rest of the season.
