LATEST NEWS- April 2015

Summer Has Finally Arrived!

The clocks have gone forward and Congleton High School’s field has been basked in sun but these are not the only signs that summer has officially begun as this week has seen the start of Congleton High School’s summer sports.
CHS offers a range of summer sports including cricket, tennis, athletics, rounders and ultimate frisbee. The full extra-curricular sports programme for the summer term is below. If you want to try out for a team or just want to have fun and stay fit, there is something for everyone.

The school’s first cricket net session of the summer was held this week, with Mr Naylor feeling the full force of year 10 student, Cameron Jennings’ beamer, which left him nursing a dead arm.
The summer sports have begun and the winter sports have come to an end and Congleton High School’s netballers have finished the season in style with both year 7 A and B teams winning their respective South Cheshire Championship tournaments this week. It was a fantastic end to what has been a brilliant season for CHS in netball, with CHS’ year 8, year 9 and under-18 girl’s netball teams being crowned South Cheshire champions this year along with the two year 7 teams. CHS have also recorded clean sweeps of wins in league meetings this season. Well done to all the girls who have been part of the school’s netball teams and let’s hope for further success next year.

From the sun baked netball courts to the snow covered mountains. Mr Naylor took part in a skiing instructor course over the Easter holidays and he was lucky enough to ski with former British alpine ski racer, Chemmy Alcott as well as get an insight into the life of professional ski racer. For those who do not know, she has competed in four Winter Olympics and seven World Championships and a multiple British national champion however she retired from international competition last year.
Finally, you may have seen in the news this week that cricketer Liam Livingstone set one of the highest one-day scores in history after he scored 350 runs off only 138 balls (including 34 fours and 27 sixes), whilst playing for Nantwich Cricket Club. I have been informed that CHS’ very own Mr French will be bowling against him in a T20 match soon. I am not sure if he will being looking forward to that!
